This Girl Rocks! (But doesn’t swim like one….)

VACATION 018

Right before summer, she accidently learned how to ride a bike without training wheels.  When summer started, we put Kyla and Piper in semi-private (just the two of them…at our convenience) swim lessons.  Piper liked the lessons except when she didn’t, but Kyla turned fish on us!  It didn’t’ take many lessons before I watched her swim several feet to her instructor.  I kept looking for the kick board she must be lying on, so I asked after the lesson. Kyla had actually been swimming on her own!

The next two lessons (which Kyla now goes to alone, as it seems better to wait until Piper is four to continue), Kyla jumped off the side and swam to her teacher, up to 15 feet away, and then back again.  Okay, she’s not going to get any points for finesse and she eventually needs to hold on to something to really catch her breath, but this girl can swim on her own, and is getting better each time she practices.

I know, I know.  Gross motor skills are not nearly as “good and useful” as fine motor skills for school preparedness.  But it is so fun to have fearless and athletic children!  (Thanks, Dwayne, for that!)
