Newest “Pets”

We are raising mason bees this year!  Well, we are attempting to raise bees.  We bought them little houses (on clearance), cardboard tubes for them to build their mud nests (hence the name “mason”), and purchased 20 cocoons. 

One hatched while I was putting the cocoons in the houses.  Kyla brought the empty cocoon to show-in-tell.  This will be kind of fun (but not as the tadpoles we’ll raise next month).

 

Mason bees:
1) Do not sting

2) Do not make honey

3) Pollinate significantly better than honey bees.
